English courses are organized according to their corresponding CEFR levels A2, B1, B2, C1, and C2, so that students can obtain certification for at least one level during an academic year.

These are blended or online courses that are given over the course of the academic year: first semester (55 hours) and second semester (55 hours). The courses for levels A2.1, B1.1, B2.1, C1.1, and C2.1 are given during the first semester, and the courses for levels A2.2, B1.2, B2.2, C1.2, and C2.2 are given during the second semester.  At the end of the second semester, there are level certification exams: the CertAcles exam, which is given in person at the University of Vigo, is used for B1, B2, and C1 levels and an in-house exam, made at the Centro de Linguas, is used for A2 and C2 levels. Students who take both semesters of a course at the Centro de Linguas do not have to pay an additional fee for the exam.

The intensive courses are five-week long blended or online course given during the summer:  A2 (60 hours), B1 (80 hours) and B2 (80 hours). The courses include an in-house exam made at the Centro de Linguas so that A2, B1 and B2 students can certify their level.

Objectives
Improve the expression, mediation, and communication skills in the English language of students, administrative staff (PAS), and teaching staff (PDI) at the University of Vigo.

Students may use the 50-minute sessions to work on fluency through spontaneous conversation or they may dedicate the time to work on English for academic purposes, such as teaching tasks carried out in English, presentations at conferences, participation in academic forums, oral presentations for undergraduate and postgraduate subjects, and preparation for an Erasmus+ stay, etc.

How to participate
To participate, register in the PRIVATE AREA (if it’s your first time) or log in using your username and password, and then enroll in the English One2One course. Since this activity is 100% funded by the Vice-Rectorate for Internationalization, the fee is 0 euros. You can enroll at any time during the semester in which the activity is taking place.

Once your request is approved, you will have access to English One2One on Moovi. After logging in, you can book an appointment for a weekly class. Starting from the second week of the semester, preference will be given to those who have not participated previously. The reservation period will be active up to one week in advance. On the day of the class, connect 5 minutes before the scheduled time to the teacher’s virtual office on the University’s videoconferencing platform (Campus Remoto). The link and password for this office are available on the Moovi platform. The teacher will only grant you access if your name matches the one that was used to make the reservation previously. During the class, you will engage in a 50-minute conversation in English with native teachers from the Centro de Linguas.

Requirements
There is no specific English language proficiency level required to participate in this activity since the teacher from the Centro de Linguas will adapt the conversation level to the participant’s proficiency. However, the participant should be able to greet, answer basic questions, and say goodbye in English.

It is an online course (20 hours) for people who have already achieved certification for the level that they needed (B2 and above) and wish to maintain that level while strengthening their oral communication skills.  With this course, they can continue to work on their listening and speaking skills while participating in a wide variety of communication activities. The teacher will propose listening and speaking activities about current issues and general interest themes in each session.  Students will learn by participating and expressing themselves in an exclusively English-speaking environment and exposing themselves to new vocabulary. The teacher will also design activities for the purpose of correcting common phonological, syntactical, and semantical errors that can impede spontaneous, fluid, and precise communication.
